After my workshop in Spetses, Jeff and I made the journey to the island of Zakynthos for a little rest and relaxation. Zakynthos is most famous for Navagio beach, also known as "ship wreck beach", which is the site of a famed 1980 shipwreck resting in a sandy cove framed by cliffs. While the ship wreck is amazing and certainly worth seeing, what we really fell head over heels in love with was the people and their traditional way of life in Zakynthos. There is no public transportation on the island so we rented a car and spent a full day exploring. We met a Shepard relaxing under the shade of an olive tree while his goats grazed in a nearby field, a lovely elderly couple and their donkey selling fruit on the side of a road, and a very kind woman running a shop out of an old school house who sold us fresh farmed honey and shared with us the most delicious home made wine I have ever tasted! We explored the endless beautiful beaches and swam in the warm turquoise sea. On our way to the airport on our last day we came up behind another elderly couple on a scooter that were heading into town to grocery shop. I made Jeff follow them while I hung out the window to capture the perfect photo. I'm sure they thought we were absolutely crazy but it remains one of my all time favorite travel photos to this day!
